Tibetan Language and Buddhist Studies Summer Camp

Camp Duration:

  • Dates: June 1st – June 30th, 2026 (30 days)

Camp Overview:

Our Tibetan Language and Buddhist Studies Summer Camp offers an enriching 30-day experience for young learners, combining the study of Tibetan language with an introduction to Tibetan Buddhist culture. Campers will have the unique opportunity to explore both academic learning and cultural activities, along with an exciting pilgrimage tour in Sri Lanka.

Age Group:

  • Campers aged 13 to 20 are welcome to join!

Camp Topics:

Tibetan Language:

  • Introduction to basic Tibetan grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure
  • Tibetan script and handwriting
  • Conversational Tibetan: greetings, daily phrases, and cultural expressions

Buddhist Studies:

  • Overview of Tibetan Buddhism: key teachings, history, and principles
  • Life and teachings of important Buddhist figures
  • Meditation and mindfulness practices
  • Sacred Buddhist texts and their meaning
  • Cultural practices, rituals, and Tibetan traditions

Other Activities:

  • Tibetan arts and crafts
  • Tibetan music and dance
  • Nature walks and cultural excursions

Pilgrimage in Sri Lanka:

As part of the camp, we will take the campers on a pilgrimage tour to Sri Lanka, where they will visit important Buddhist sites:

  • Anuradhapura: Ancient city with sacred temples and stupas
  • Kandy: Home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic
  • Dambulla: Famous for its rock temple and murals
  • Colombo: Explore the cultural and historical heart of Sri Lanka

This pilgrimage will provide a hands-on learning experience of Buddhist history and culture, connecting the teachings of the camp to real-world locations.

Fees:

$800 per participant (Camp fee covers all activities, accommodation, meals, and the Sri Lanka pilgrimage. Please note, this does not include pilgrimage tickets or other personal expenses.)
Limited spots available: Only 20 campers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents of the campers are welcome, but their participation is not included in the camper count. We expect a maximum of 40 parents.

Geshe Tenzin Celon (Resident Teacher of Semkay Ling)

Tenzin Celon is a highly experienced educator and scholar with over two decades of teaching Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and epistemology across various prestigious institutions. As a lecturer at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE) in Bengaluru, Geshe Celon has significantly contributed to making Buddhist teachings accessible to modern audiences, focusing on simplifying complex concepts for a wider community. His academic background includes a Geshe Ngarampa certification from Gyudmed Tantric University, alongside in-depth training from the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative. Geshe Celon’s passion for the intersection of Buddhism and science has led him to present at numerous international conferences and workshops, making him a sought-after voice in the dialogue between ancient wisdom and contemporary thought.

With a dedicated commitment to education and personal development, Tenzin has also worked on various projects that promote interfaith dialogue, peace, and mental well-being. His diverse skill set, including expertise in interpretation, workshop facilitation, and digital media management, further highlights his adaptability and contribution to the global understanding of Buddhist philosophy. Through his workshops, lectures, and presentations, Tenzin continues to inspire and guide individuals toward a deeper understanding of mindfulness, compassion, and universal human values.
