His Eminence Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche’s Visit to Sri Lanka: Inaugurating the Pali and Sanskrit International Bhikkhu Exchange Programme

Several years ago, Dr. Damenda, the Deputy Secretary-General of the International Buddhist Confederation, and others earnestly requested His Eminence Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche to visit Sri Lanka. And it has also been a long wish of Rinpoche himself too that this time, His Eminence was able to visit Sri Lanka as he was invited as the Chief Guest to inaugurate the Pali and Sanskrit International Bhikkhu Exchange Programme on 9th Feb. 2025. During the address, His Eminence expressed great joy at the opportunity to attend this important program which was held at the Monastery of Venerable Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayaka Thero, who offered relics of the Buddha to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the previous year. Rinpoche also took that opportunity to express appreciation and gratitude to Venerable Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayaka Thero for the offering of sacred relics to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

His Eminence further remarked that, this exchange program, now in its third year, is part of a five-year initiative inspired by the Dalai Lama to strengthen unity among Buddhist traditions. It facilitates dialogue and knowledge-sharing between Pali and Sanskrit traditions, emphasizing monastic discipline (Vinaya), ethical conduct, and religious harmony. Rinpoche underscores Sri Lanka’s pivotal role in Buddhist history and its contributions to preserving the Pali Canon.

Looking ahead, he stress the need to expand such initiatives to address modern challenges with wisdom and compassion. The address was concluded with a note of thanks and reaffirming a commitment to Buddhist unity and global peace.

རིན་པོ་མཆོག་ནས་མུ་མཐུད་གསུང་པར། ལས་རིམ་འདི་བཞིན་༧སྤྱི་ནོར་༸གོང་ས་༸སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་བུའི་དགོངས་གཞིའི་ཐོག་བསྒྲིགས་པའི་ལོ་ལྔ་ཚན་གྱི་པཱ་ལི་དང་ལེགས་སྦྱར་ཆོས་བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་པའི་དགེ་འདུན་དབར་ཤེས་ཡོན་སྤེལ་རེས་ཀྱི་ལས་རིམ་ཞིག་ཡིན་པ་དང་། ད་ལན་ལོ་གསུམ་པའི་ལས་རིམ་འགྲོ་བཞིན་ཡོད་པ་འདི་དག་ནི། མགོན་པོ་གང་ཉིད་ནས་ནང་པའི་ཆོས་བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་པ་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་སྟོན་པ་གཅིག་གི་རྗེས་འཇུག་ཡིན་པ་དང་། མཐུན་ལམ་དམ་ཚིག་ཟབ་མོ་ཡོང་རེའི་རླབས་ཆེན་གྱི་དགོངས་གཞི་ཡིན་ཚུལ། ལས་རིམ་འདི་བརྒྱུད་ནས་པཱ་ལི་དང་ལེགས་སྦྱར་ཆོས་བརྒྱུད་གཉིས་དབར་འདུལ་བསྟན་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་ཆོས་ཕྱོགས་ཀྱི་བགྲོ་གླེང་དང་ཤེས་ཡོན་བརྗེ་ལེན། དེ་བཞིན་ཆོས་ལུགས་མཐུན་འབྲེལ་གྱི་སྡིངས་ཆ་ཞིག་བསྐྲུན་ཡོད་སྐོར་བཀའ་གནང་བར་མ་ཟད། སིང་གྷ་ལ་འདི་བཞིན་ལོ་རྒྱུས་ཐོག་ནང་པའི་རྒྱལ་ཁབ་གལ་གནད་ཅན་ཞིག་ཡིན་པ་དང་། པཱ་ལིའི་ཆོས་བརྒྱུད་རྒྱུན་འཛིན་ཐད་མཛད་རྗེས་ཆེན་པོ་རེད། ཅེས་སོགས་དང་། མཇུག་ཏུ་འབྱུང་འགྱུར་ཡང་འདི་ལྟ་བུའི་ལས་གཞི་རྒྱ་ཆེར་སྤེལ་ནས་བྱམས་བརྩེ་དང་རྣམ་དཔྱོད་ཟུང་འབྲེལ་ལམ་ནས་ད་ལྟའི་གོ་ལའི་སྟེང་གི་དཀའ་རྙོག་དག་ལ་གདོང་ལེན་ཡོང་ཐབས་དགོས་གལ་སོགས་བཀའ་སློབ་བཀའ་དྲིན་བསྩལ།
